Place this file in your quake2\baseq2 directory 
(where the other *.pak files are)

Features:

This PAK is designed to help you see your current 
weapon when viewable weapons are turned off.  The 
weapon icons are ripped from Quake3, and are oversized 
to maximize visibility.  A negative side effect is that 
in your inventory, the icon will hang off the bottom, 
and when a weapon is picked up it will temporarily cover 
your health.  The large weapon icon will not cover your
ammo readout.

To insure viewable weapons are off, place this line in 
your autoexec.cfg file (in your baseq2 directory):

set hand "2"
