The main server was brought down to upgrade the physical memory in the machine. The server now has 320MB of ram. This was to help prevent exceeding the server's load capacity during peak gaming hours.

At 6:30 pm MCI/Worldcom had there downtown OC12 and OC48 Circuits go down, This is effecting our primary backbone connection and several inbound T3's that support ADSL through GTE. UUnet/Worldcom are currently looking at this problem and have an ETA of 2:00pm today.

At 6:00 am UUnet/Worldcom discovered an intermittent problem with the OC12 that our UUnet connection go through, This will result in sporadic connection drops. UUnet/Worldcom are currently looking at this problem and have an ETA of 5:00pm today.

At 4:00 am we will be bringing down several backbone connections for testing. This might prevent some customers from accessing the internet for several minutes.

At around 8:30 PM our main backbone connections (Primary and Secondary) with UUNet went down for about 60 minutes this evening do to a router change at UUnet. UUnet did not schedule this move with us and they did not properly route our IP's back
to us. These connections are backup now and running properly.

In addition, GTE has had problems throughout DFW for the past 2 -3 weeks due
to upgrades and we currently do not have status from GTE on when they will have stability back on there network.

GTE Switch upgrades are effecting all DirectLink GTE ADSL customers. Downtime should be from 1:00am to 2:30am.

We have been informed by GTE that they will be performing switch upgrades in the DFW area from 8/15/2000 to 9/12/2000.

9:00pm. The Internet backbone is currently experiencing routing instabilities across the entire United States. The backbone senior network engineers are currently working to correct any problems. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Network Outage 3:50pm - 4:10pm. Someone at UUnet had taken our circuits out of their router configs, taking down our primary and secondary links leaving only our third connection out to Digex. Everything is back to normal now.

At 6:40 PM we learned that UUnet has several core ATM switches down on their backbone. Both our primary and secondary links are affected by this outage.
6:48 PM - UUNet resolved the problems.

DirectLink has finished the cut over to the ISP News news servers and news.DirectLink.net is now pointing to the servers. If you are having problems news groups as a result of this, you will need to reload the groups into your reader.

DirectLink has signed a deal with ISP News as our new news outsourcing service. On November 1st, 1999 we will convert the news.DirectLink.net to point to the new server.

DirectLink learned today the Giganews, our news feed outsource has made the decision to and has completed a bandwidth cap of 64k per session.

Giganews did not inform DirectLink "or" any other ISP of these changes, and if Giganews does not comply to our requests to be converted back by 11/16/99, we will convert over to another news feed.
